History

Creation

In 1987, General Motors have entered an agreement with Saab to sell their cars alongside Isuzu cars in Canada. This was the introduction of the Isuzu brand in Canada. Since both brands were from different origins, the dealerships were called Passport and adorned the "International automobile" catchphrase. Isuzu then sold the I-Mark, the Trooper and its pickup trucks. Saab had the 900 and the 9000.
To complete the offer, General Motors accessed its international model catalog and sourced the Kadett from Opel, manufacturing it by Daewoo in South Korea and selling it as the Passport Optima in Canada.
The Optima was the sole model to be branded as Passport.
The Passport brand disapeared when GM restructured in 1991 and decided to create the Asüna brand for Canadian Pontiac Buick dealerships in order to match Geo's offering which was available at Chevrolet dealerships. Saab and Isuzu were then joined by the newly-created Saturn brand and the Passport name disapeared.
