History

In 1989, like Toyota with its Lexus division and Mazda with its planned Amati division, Nissan created the Infiniti division in the United States in order to compete with the upscale Acura division from Honda. Models not previously offered by Nissan on the North American market found their way to dealers in USA and Canada. One early notable example is the Infiniti M30 which was sold as the Nissan Leopard in Japan.
