China, 1958-200?
History
Origins
According to our sources, the Forta (Fuda) brand was started by Fuzhou Auto Repair & Assembly Works (not to be confused with Fuzhou Automobile Works) which started to produce Dodge trucks and Mazda three-wheelers in 1958.
In 1984, it is said that the company assembled Mitsubishi L300 and Isuzu WFR (Fargo) vans until 1986, seemingly using the Forta as a brand name.
There was a connection with Isuzu for producing commercial truck models at well.
In 1990, Fuzhou Auto Repair & Assembly Works joined the Fujian Automobile Industry Corporation (FAIC) which formally created the Forta brand. They started producing vehicles with Mazda bases such as the FZ1022 pickup, litterally a Mazda B-series, the FZ6430, litterally a Mazda Bongo van, as well as the FZ6450 which was the first-generation Mazda MPV.
In 2005, the company started to focus on Isuzu TF based SUVs named Lucheng and Furui. It is however unknwon if the company produced the pickup derivatives that other chinese companies produced alongside.
It is UNCLEAR at this point what the fate of that company was until the firm was bought out by Leapmotor in 2020.
