History

Established in 1907 as Hatsudoki Seizo Co., Ltd, Daihatsu is considered as the oldest car company in Japan. In 1951, the company took the name as it is known today. Daihatsu has specialized in producing some of the most popular kei cars in Japan along with the help of Toyota, which increased its shares in Daihatsu since 1967. Daihatsu became a fully owned subsidiary of Toyota in 2016.
